How to Be Harajuku

How to Be Harajuku

Harajuku girls take major fashion risks.
The Harajuku phenomenon originated in Japan, and is all about combining a hodgepodge of recognizable styles into one outrageously bizarre fashion statement. Most Harajuku girls wear dark eyeliner with red lips and colorful, playful pigtails, very much resembling characters from an anime movie. If you're striving to be a Harajuku girl, you definitely need to march to the beat of your own fashion drummer. You need to be funky, wacky and most importantly, brazenly unique. With the Harajuku style, anything you imagine can be turned into a reality; just let your imagination be your guide. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1
Stand out from your fashion counterparts. Harajuku fashion ranges from the very fierce punk rock chicks to the very innocent flirty damsels in distress. Whichever style you gravitate toward, make sure to flaunt it with shameless confidence.
    • 2
Wear a demure button-down white shirt with a flared collar paired with a black spunky mini skirt, fishnet stockings and thigh high boots. Add extra long lashes to achieve that innocent baby-doll look, and complete the look with a bold necklace and chunky bangles. Mixing and matching is the name of the game.
    • 3
Commit to just one look. You don't necessarily have to go the mixing and matching route. So, if you want to be wild, display that newfound attitude to the world with your untamed style. If you want to be bubble gum sweet and radiant, intersperse your outfit with a few ladylike fashion selections.

Be bold with your fashion accessories and your makeup. Try evoking a different era to really spice things up. Those little maneuvers will really polish your overall look, like putting the cherry on top of a very colorful cake.
